Hornets blast Magnolia West 6-0

The Huntsville varsity boys bombed Magnolia West 6-0 last Saturday in a District 40-4A soccer game.

The Hornets got three goals from Mark Ortega, and one score each from Kevin Santos, Gerson Flores, and Nelson Privado. Miguel Moncada, Roberto Varela and Julio Blas all had assists in the game.

“It was a good game for our guys who just regained their eligibility and the others also,” Hornets coach Robert Taylor said of the game that was postponed Friday because of bad weather. “We were explosive and committed to a game plan that helped us create chances, and we were able to put more of those away than we have in the recent past.

“We were able to put away three goals in each half. Kevin scored in the first five minutes of the game, then Mark had two of his three goals before the first half ended. In the second half we were able to capitalize on a couple of corner kick opportunities, before Mark added his third goal to finish it off.”

The Hornets play at Willis tonight in a critical district game.

“I am looking forward to our game with Willis,” Taylor said. “Depending on how that game goes, we could find ourselves sliding into a tight fourth-place race or propelling ourselves into a tight first-place race.

“It will be a big game and I know our guys will be ready.”
