Tony award-winning musical set for performance at SHSU

The Sam Houston State University Department of Theatre and Dance presents the Tony award-winning musical “Thoroughly Modern Millie” with music by Jeanine Tesori, lyrics by Dick Scanlan, and book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan. Show dates are Nov. 18-21 at 8 p.m., as well as, a matinee performance on Nov. 21 at 2 p.m. All performances are in the University Theatre Center Mainstage Theatre.

Directed by SHSU Faculty Larry Smiglewski, “Thoroughly Modern Millie” tells the story of Millie Dillmount’s (Madison Turner) move to New York from Salina, Kan. The young small town girl gets wrapped up in the whirlwind of a 1920’s New York City where jazz, dancing, and glamour reign supreme. Based on the original movie with Julie Andrews and Carol Channing, this musical explores the Roaring Twenties where “The Charleston” and short bobbed hair for woman were fashionable.

Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for SHSU students and senior citizens. Group rates are available. Children under the age of three will not be admitted. For more information, call the University Theatre Center box office at (936) 294-1339.
