The Sam Houston State University Department of Theatre and Dance presents on the Mainstage “Eurydice” by Sarah Ruhl.
Performances are scheduled Oct. 14-17 at 8 p.m. each evening with a 2 p.m. matinee Oct. 17.
“Eurydice” is the SHSU Department of Theatre and Dance 2009-2010 participating entry in the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
“Eurydice” is a retelling of the Greek myth Orpheus as seen through the eyes of Eurydice (Tasheena Miyagi).
On the day of her wedding to Orpheus (Garret Storms), Eurydice, is deceived and travels to the underworld where she is reunited with her father (Sam Weeks).
The script chronicles Eurydice’s attempts to return to the world of the living and to Orpheus. The tale is as compelling today as it was when originally written.
The cast also includes theater majors Ashtyn Sonner (Loud Stone), Carlos Salinas (Little Stone), Jarrell Rochelle (Big Stone), and theatre minor Dayne Lathrop (Nasty Interesting Man/Lord of the Underworld).
“Eurydice” is directed by SHSU theatre faculty Tom Prior.
Senior theater major Veronica LaCombe is the stage manager. The scenic design is by junior theater major Mike Weiss. Sophomore theater major Vilija Tuminas is properties designer.
Additionally, SHSU theater faculty Kristina Hanssen is costume designer and Eric Marsh is lighting designer.
Co-composing music for the show is School of Music faculty member Brian Herrington, SHSU Intersection Contempary Music Ensemble and junior theater major Josh Fehrmann.
Tickets are $10 for general admission and $8 for SHSU students and senior citizens. Group rates are available.
Children under the age of 3 will not be admitted.
