By Ray Sarno

Marlene Wooster is the 2009 Elkins Lake Women’s Golf Association Match Play champion after defeating Margie Randleman in the final match of the Championship Flight by a 5 and 4 margin.

Wooster’s march to the finals was not an easy one, as she had to beat defending Medal Play champion Wanda McGhee in the first round, then defeat Judy Tanner in the second round.

In the consolation final, Gerry Moulder had to go to the final hole before ending her match with McGhee, 1-up.

The First Flight was captured by Nancy Franklin following a 4 and 2 win over Betty Liles. The consolation win went to Joy Owens.

Jan Martel defeated Debbie Ware for the Second Flight title, while the consolation trophy was taken by Mary McClane.

Barbara Wall took the Third Flight with a 1-up win over Barri Green. The consolation prize was awarded to Kim Gould after a 5 and 3 win.

Brenda Stanton was the winner in the Fourth Flight after her 5 and 3 victory over Adell Emanis. Joy Gremillion was the consolation winner.

In the Lady Niner’s division, the 2009 championship went to Bett Docherty. Her 1-up victory over Alura Galbraith took one extra hole.

Consolation honors were awarded to Nancy Mills.

The top prize in the Second Flight went to Judy Raithel after she defeated Sherry Gleghorn by a 2 and 1 margin. Becky Riddell won the consolation side of the bracket with a 3 and 1 victory.

There were two holes in one during the event. On Wednesday, Jan Martel hit a perfect shot on the fourth hole on the Hills nine. Jan used a hybrid wood for the 113-yard shot.

During the finals on Thursday, Kim Gould aced her third hole of the day on the Lakes nine. Kim used a 9-iron for the 82-yard shot.

A week ago Saturday, Leonard and Marilyn Valka defended their Couples Club Championship title with a team gross score of 165.

Low Net winners were Charlie and Doris Feldman, who finished their round with a net total of 138. The Feldmans took the top prize after a scorecard playoff with the teams of Ray and Marlene Wooster and Marvin and Sherrie Currie, who both turned in identical cards totaling 138.

Congratulations to all the winners of these two events.
