New Waverly falls to Jiim Ned in state semifinals

AUSTIN — Jordan Coffman scored 18 points and Tuscola Jim Ned stormed past cold-shooting New Waverly 62-41 in the Class 2A semifinals.

Jim Ned (29-7), which last played in the state tournament in 2005 when Texas quarterback Colt McCoy was a guard for the Indians, easily handled New Waverly’s pressure defense and built a 23-point by the end of the third quarter.

The Indians also dominated the boards, outrebounding New Waverly, 51-29.

Hayden Holson added 14 points and 13 rebounds for Jim Ned.

Jarvis Sykes scored 13 points to lead New Waverly (36-3), which shot 23 percent (15 of 64) and was just 6 of 17 from the free throw line. New Waverly’s 41 points were a season low. The Bulldogs had scored 90 or more points 13 times.
