Huntsville Rotary Pancake Supper
The entire community is invited to a Pancake Supper on Monday at Scott Johnson Elementary and Sam Houston Elementary campuses from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Cost is $2 for children and $4 for adults with all proceeds going towards the purchase of the “I like me!” books which are distributed among HISD’s elementary campuses.
Relay for Life Meeting
The 2010 Walker County Relay for Life will hold its Team Captain Meeting Monday March 8 at 6 p.m. in the Meeting Room at the Holiday Inn Express. The theme for this year’s Relay is, “It’s a Birthday Celebration.” Anyone interested in forming a team for this year’s Relay is urged to attend. Two choirs in concert
On Tuesday, March 9, the Sam Houston State University Concert Choir, under the direction of Elisa West, will combine with the Huntsville High School Chamber Choir, under the direction of Clay West, for a concert at First United Methodist Church. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m.
‘Creative Solutions for Your Family’s Appetite’
The Huntsville Public Library will host Master Gardener Darnell Schreiber’s presentation of “Creative Solutions for Your Family’s Appetite.” Schreiber is a retired lifelong educator who continues to share her teaching gifts with students of all ages. Schreiber, a certified Master Gardener in four Texas counties – including Walker – will share her enthusiasm for herbs and cooking with herbs on Tuesday, March 9, from 10:30 a.m. to noon at City Hall, 1212 Avenue M.
El Chico Fundraiser
There will be a fundraiser for SHSU Lions Club on Tuesday, March 9, beginning at 5 p.m. at El Chico.
AAUW
Dr. Lydia Fox, director of the McNair Program at SHSU, will explain the function of the program named for the late astronaut and aimed at first generation college attendees at the AAUW meeting at 7 p.m. on March 9 in the Blalock Room on the sixth floor of First National Bank in Huntsville.

Benefit concert for Rita B. Huff
Melanie Holliday, internationally acclaimed soprano, will present an evening of “Favorite Show Tunes and Operetta Melodies” on Thursday, March 11, at 7:30 p.m. The program will take place at the Old Towne Theatre in Huntsville. Chamber Small Business Breakfast

Journey Through Bethlehem
There is a Journey through Bethlehem general planning meeting at 7 p.m. on March 11 at Wesley Memorial Methodist Church located at 700 Highway 30 East in the Fellowship Hall. JTB is a Christmas Community Outreach program event held the first weekend in December at the Walker County Fairgrounds. The Huntsville High School Soccer Booster Club will meet on Wednesday, March 11, at 5:30 p.m. in the HS Commons. All interested are welcome to attend. The end of the year banquet, senior night, and election of next years officers will be discussed.
AARP
The Huntsville/Walker Co. Chapter of AARP will meet on Thursday, March 11, at the Elkins Lake Clubhouse. An earlier starting time for the March meeting only is 5:30 p.m. State Representative Lois W. Kolkhorst is scheduled to be their guest speaker. Cost of the plated dinner is $12. Those attending the meeting will have the optional opportunity of bringing a cash contribution to help support the Rita B. Huff Humane Society.

Walker County Master Gardeners invite you to its Annual Spring Plant Sale on March 13. Located at 102 Tam Road (Highway 75 North, 2 miles north of Pilot Truck Stop). Sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Included will be vegetable plants, heirloom tomatoes, annuals, shrubs, natives, herbs. Many unusual plants will be offered at the Walker County facility. VFW Dance
Trinity VFW Post 6899 is having the monthly dance from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday, March 13. The band is Iron Horse. Beer, soda and setups are available. A donation of $5 per person is required. The dance is open to the public, so come out and kick up your heels to the fine country music. Wear your green or orange and be Irish for a night in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

The Huntsville Youth Football League will hold a fundraiser on March 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Walgreen’s Parking Lot. Cost is $5 for chopped beef sandwich or sausage sandwich, chips and drink or $3 for sandwich.
Community Aglow Lighthouse
The Huntsville Community Aglow Lighthouse will be meeting Saturday, March 13, at Five Loaves Deli, 1329 University Avenue, from 10 a.m. to noon. Blood Drive
Elkins Lake Baptist Church, St. Thomas Catholic Church and Robinson Memorial Church of God in Christ, along with the Huntsville Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, will host a blood drive on Saturday, March 13, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the new location - Gibbs Elementary/Pre-K Center, 1800 19th Street. Donors must be at least 17 years of age and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds or 16 years of age, weigh 122 pounds, and have parental consent. Photo identification is required. More than 1,000 units of blood are needed daily and each unit donated can help as many as three people so your donation is needed and greatly appreciated. Spring Sprouting for Children
The Huntsville Public Library will host the Walker County Master Gardeners on Wednesday, March 17 at 2 p.m. The Master Gardeners will lend their expertise to the “Spring Sprouting” program recommended for elementary- aged children. Activities include a story time, a lesson about plant propagation and will conclude with an outdoor planting activity. Huntsville Christian Women’s Luncheon
The Huntsville Christian Women’s Club invites you to its “Spring is in the Air” luncheon on Thursday, March 18, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Elkins Lake Clubhouse in Huntsville. Walker County Genealogical Society
The Walker County Genealogical Society will sponsor a workshop on March 20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Texas Prison Museum, 491 Highway 75 North at Huntsville. Speaker will be Emily Anne Croom, author, instructor and National Genealogical Society member. This workshop is open to anyone interested in family research, so please register early as seating is limited. Lunch will be included in the admission for those registering by March 10. Shriner Chili and Bean Cook-off
American Legion Post and Auxiliary Unit 618 will sponsor its annual Shriners Chili and Bean Cook-off on March 20. Kick off dance will be at 8 p.m. on Friday night the 19th. The Wynne Home Arts Center will host a community Easter egg hunt on Saturday, April 3, from noon to 2 p.m. Kids of all ages are welcome to come and join in the search.
