City of Huntsville Parks and Recreation Services staff member Seth Flowers hangs a 175th Birthday banner on 12th Street near the Old Town Theatre Friday afternoon. Parks and Recreation Services will hang 48 such banners throughout Huntsville’s downtown square before the city's 175th Birthday Celebration today at 5 p.m. The banners feature four Huntsville landmarks – City Hall, Steamboat House, the Walls Unit and Old Main – as well as the date of each landmark’s construction and the name of a sponsor. The banners were sponsored by the City of Huntsville, AT&T, Team Dodge and the University Cancer Center. The celebration will begin at 5 p.m. with back-to-back-to-back performances by the Faye Burns Dance Studio, the Greater Zion Marching Drill Team and the Greater Zion Combined Choir. At 6 p.m. a birthday parade will begin in front of Austin Hall at the intersection of 17th Street and University Avenue. The parade, featuring entries from various local organizations, will proceed down University Avenue to the downtown square, where the festivities will continue with booths featuring local churches, civic groups, businesses and other organizations.
