Sam Houston State sophomore Ryan Mooney puts a swing on a Mike Ojala fastball and deposits it over the left-field fence for a solo home run in the first inning of Friday’s game against Rice in the NCAA Houston Regional. The sixth-ranked Owls scored single runs in the second, third and fifth innings before tagging on two runs in the bottom of the eighth in their 5-2 win over the Bearkats. Sam Houston State will play Xavier today in an elimination game at 2 p.m.
