Workers continue construction of the massive Performing Arts Center on the campus of Sam Houston State University on Monday. The center will bring together the departments of dance, music and theater under one roof. The center, which costs $38.5 million, measures 98,000 square feet. It will also include an 800-seat concert hall with a stage measuring 54 1/2 feet wide. It is expected to open in time for classes in the fall 2010. Dr. James Bankhead, director of the School of Music, said the center “basically attaches the theater complex and the music complex and makes it one big building. We are going to have musical theater and dance all under one roof.”
