Kenneth Scheffer and Merle Byrne married in Houston on Sept. 17, 1949, and are celebrating their 60th anniversary this week. They lived in Houston until 1992 when they retired and moved to Elkins Lake. An anniversary dinner was enjoyed at Kirby's Steakhouse on Saturday, Sept. 12, hosted by the Scheffer's children: daughter, Donna Vernon and her husband Steve of Garland; daughter, Gayla Roberson and her husband Butch of Spring; and son, Alan Scheffer and his wife Yolanda of Dayton. The couple also have seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
