Mr. and Mrs. Doug Bertling have been residents of Huntsville since January of 1975, when Mr. B was transferred here from Baytown to manage the Bonanza Steakhouse which was located on the corner of Highway 30 and I-45. Since that time, Mr. B has owned and operated the Chicken Shack, the Cafe Texan, and now the Hitchin’ Post Restaurant on I-45.
Mrs. Bertling was raised in Waco and is the daughter of W.D. Wolf who was circulation manager for the Waco News Tribune for many years. She and Mr. B. met at Baylor while both were students and were married at Brook Ave. Baptist Church on Feb. 7, 1947, which is the cause for their celebration of their 60th anniversary.
Mr. B. graduated from Bellville High School and later served in World War II as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne division; he now has his honorable discharge along with several other awards he earned in his military service.
Mr. and Mrs. Bertling have 3 sons and one daughter, along with several grandchildren. They have been members of First Baptist Church for many years where Mr. B serves as a deacon.

Murphy 60th Anniversary
Preston Junior Murphy and Billie Marie Peace Murphy were married April 24, 1948 in Timpson, Texas. They will celebrate their 60th anniversary with their son Doug and his wife, Sandy of Keller, Texas; daughter Becky Murphy Frezia and son-in-law Wayne of Huntsville; grandson Shelby and his wife, Keri of Aspen, Colo.; son Zachary Rosado and his wife Jennifer of Huntsville; granddaughter Cody and her husband, Caleb Sanderson of Tulsa, Okla. The couple has also been blessed with four great-grandsons, Braxton Rosado, Preston and Jamie Murphy and Cohen Sanderson.

Wade Duane (W.D.) and Joyce Gillaspie of Dodge celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on Sept. 5, 2007. The couple was married in 1952, in El Paso, Texas. W.D. was self-employed for many years and Joyce is a retired high school teacher.

Eldreth 50th Wedding Anniversary
On Aug. 2, 2007, Chuck and Pat will celebrate their 50th anniversary. Chuck is a retired officer of the US Army and a retire teacher with TDCJ. Chuck and Pat now enjoy full-time motor home travel. They have two daughters and 5 grandsons.
