About Us

HUNTSVILLE — The Item is located at 1409 10th St., Huntsville, TX 77342-0539, across the street from the central Huntsville post office. The building was constructed in the late 1960s and sits on the banks of Town Creek. The newspaper plant employs 45 full-time and about 30 part-time Item employees and houses a 10-unit Goss Community printing press. The Item was established in 1850 and is the second oldest continuously published newspaper in the state of Texas. In addition to the Item, with a circulation of 7,000 daily/8,000 Sunday, the plant prints the Texas Trader, a Wednesday shopper with distribution of 20,000; the TDCJ Region One Round-Up with a 9,000 circulation monthly; the Texas A&M University student newspaper, The Battalion, which has a circulation of 22,000 daily; the Sam Houston State University newspaper, The Houstonian, with a circulation 5,500 weekly; and a host of other commercial publications.
